Previously a single parent herself, Tricia started the charity because she wanted to give back and recognising the challenges and emotional roller coaster of two single parents she worked with in Spain, decided Guardian Angels was the answer. She is now not only the proud mother of her two grown-up sons, but also has two wonderful grandchildren. “Raising a family on your own can be one of the hardest jobs in the world, especially in a foreign country. Guardian Angels has a strong team of wonderful, dedicated people who are focused on helping our members”.
Gill Somers - President
“Hello my name is Gill. I moved to the Costa Blanca with my family 9 years ago. I have three daughters who went to school here but are now all back in the UK studying at university and college. I have been with GA for 6 years now, and, I have found it rewarding, sometimes challenging, but knowing that I am helping our members in even just a small way, makes my efforts all worthwhile.
When I first met Tricia she was looking for a Treasurer, so I took that task on board, as I have an accounting background. I quickly started organising fundraising events to raise much needed funds. I have since handed over that reign and I am now the President and have a fantastic team who work hard making GA work.”
Michelle Lawrence-Sinko - Vice President
Michelle moved to North Costa Blanca from London in the Summer of 2015 with her husband. They both wanted a quieter life away from the fast pace of London and fell in love with the area when they first visited in Feb 2015. Michelle was previously the treasurer of her local ward committee in London and thoroughly enjoyed helping people in her area. Michelle comes from a ‘large family’ and is one of 6 children and has many nieces and nephews, so has a wealth of experience with dealing with family matters. She has completed her first level of counselling and is a qualified Reiki healer. Helping others gives Michelle great satisfaction and she relishes having the opportunity to be part of such a great charity.
Ann Lawrenson - Treasurer
Two years ago Ann was visiting friends in Jalon whilst spending two years travelling around Europe. She and her husband, Andy, liked the area and the lifestyle so much they have decided to live here for the foreseeable future. Ann has 35 years experience in education, supporting children and families and advising various groups concerned with improving life chances for young people. She has designed and run workshops for parents who would like to improve their relationship with their children. Ann has three grown up children and seven grandchildren. She wants to support Guardian Angels as much as possible.
“I came to Marina Alta for a holiday in 2015 and I’m still here! My background is developing and managing services plus running my own businesses in floristry. At the age of 16, I was homeless, with a baby but no partner. My guardian Angel was my health visitor who supported and inspired me. I hope I can contribute to making that same big difference for others who need a helping hand.”
“Hi I’m Irene. I moved to Javea last year after discovering the area a few years ago. I am here with my husband and we have a son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter in the US.
I have known about the charity for about 3 years through my good friend Tricia, who was the founder and at the time President. I retired 7 years ago from a career in the UK Civil Service and was looking for a worthy charity in which to contribute. Throughout my career I have been involved in both training and development and as a manager I have coached and mentored people to reach their full potential.
I may not have experienced being a single parent first hand but the vast majority of my family and close friends have, so I have been involved with the consequences. Having had a life-changing health situation in 2002, I experienced what it’s like to have to deal with your life suddenly changing and ‘getting back on your feet’. I hope my experience will be of benefit to members.”
