Events Gallery – 2017
On Saturday 25th June, probably the hottest day of the year so far, 9 members and 24 children aged from 3 – 17 travelled by coach to Oceanografic, the largest aquarium in Europe, situated in the architecturally-spectacular City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
On arrival at the busy Oceanografic and after the now-traditional group photo, the members went off in groups to explore the many attractions, arranged by geographic regions of the world. The Arctic and Antarctic collections, housed in a giant igloo, included penguins, seals and a cute beluga whale and her baby. The Tropical area and several others included a tunnel through which visitors walk, a wonderful experience with fish all around you. This was particularly scary when we were surrounded by sharks!
We also saw turtles, flamingos. pelicans, a colourful collection of tropical butterflies and some of the more adventurous members braved the 4D cinema, complete with ‘special effects’! Sarah Barne’s son Tom, who never stopped smiling all day, loved the crocodiles and the sharks and little Valentina was very happy being so close to all the different types of colourful fish, both large and small! Angelika took some spectacular photos and a video of jelly fish and at 1:30 we watched a wonderful dolphin show.
Denia member Mercedes Wesley woke up on Saturday morning to find she had injured her foot the night before and was in great pain. Her eldest daughter Valentina had already packed her little ‘Frozen’ backpack the night before and was bitterly disappointed that she would miss the trip. However, fellow member Marie Fielding and her two daughters Rhiannon and Jade stepped in and offered to take Valentina and look after her.
The trip was superbly organised by GA treasurer Ann Lawrenson, who was assisted on the day by mentors Celia and Vernon Pearce. Judging by the many comments and tributes the next morning on Facebook, everyone had a fantastic time
Thank you to all the lovely ladies who attended the ladies lunch at Victoria Station, Parcent on 23rd March. The food was amazing and had such great service. Thank you so much Vicky, Dave and Roberto. We managed to raise €138!!
