Sunday 7th August proved to be a fantastic day in the Guardian Angels calendar. Members of GA and their children, along with helpers and mentors had a fun packed day at the annual pool party. Sue Coley kindly opened her house to us and allowed us to use the pool, her beautiful terrace and outdoor kitchen area. She arranged a marvellous BBQ, popcorn and soft play toys for the younger children. There were water games and toys, ice creams as well as suitable drinks for the adults. Everyone who attended had a brilliant time and several children were reluctant to leave

This year our members enjoyed their annual day out to Terra Natura, Benidorm. Thirteen parents and their children had a fantastic day visiting the zoo park. The weather was not too hot so the animals were more active than they would have been in higher temperatures. Perfecto! I am pleased to report that Auna escaped from her cage and luckily, the lions did not; Brigitte survived the assault by an eagle during the display of birds of prey and Vernon’s hat was undamaged by the owl that settled on him. Sadly Maria had to go home without her map because the goat had eaten it! The day out proved to be a brilliant opportunity for parents to meet, make friends and build a support network. The children were able to do the same and see some amazing animals as well. Thank you to Tricia, Vernon, Celia and Ann for their hard work organising the day and ensuring everything went smoothly. Thank you to all the ladies who were able to make it – hope you had a good time. Also thank you to Lauren Staton for the beautiful poetry book that she donated as a raffle prize. Laura Aldridge for donating her gorgeous painting and cards (see picture below). She has more paintings available on her Facebook page. Many thanks to Bob and Andrea for allowing us to have our lunch at their restaurant and for donating a raffle prize of breakfast for 2 with cava. Finally, thank you to Debbie Evans for hosting the lunch with me – well done you! Hope to see you all next time – date to be announced very soon. The lovely Debbie Clarke, owner of the bar, worked very hard on this event and produced a huge variety of delicious tapas, followed by an elegant dessert. The supporters were kept busy participating throughout the afternoon with Name the Teddy, Name the Winning Horses, Pick a Calendar date, Bingo and much more. The Grand National race was watched with great excitement and the winners very happy with the resulting payout. Proceeds raised came to over 300€. Many thanks to Debbie, her staff who worked for free, Colin and Teresa and the GA team of helpers. This open day at the her beautiful ‘La Finca’ home is held monthly by the generous owner, Rosie Woodham, who gives the proceeds from the tea and cakes donations to a charity. In March she chose Guardian Angels, so a team of bakers (including our committee and mentors) set to work and produced the most wonderful collection of mouth-watering cakes. Thanks to everyone’s hard work 534€ was raised for GA. We are very grateful to Rosie and all concerned.
